Micronutrients and metabolic diseases research group (led by JF Landrier) main objective is to evaluate the impact of micronutrients on the etiology of cardiometabolic risk factors in a systems biology approach, i.e. integrating interactions between metabolic organs. Its research has contributed  to highlight the role of specific nutrients (in particular vitamins A and D, β-carotene and lycopene) on the biology of adipose tissue, inflammation and the control of sensitivity to insulin. These results now constitute a solid basis demonstrating the interest of studying the biological function of these nutrients. These studies also take into account the physical activity dimension.

The metabolomics group (led by JC Martin), backed by the Biomet platform, does research in Biostatistics, Physiology and Systems Biology. It uses the metabolomic approach to understand the environmental influence including nutrition on heatlh, disease and well being.

AMU contributes expertise in miRNA expression and functionality and their relevance as biomarkers
of nutritional status or metabolic health implemented in several clinical projects, through JF Landrier (PI in the project) and his team (4 PhD and 2 technicians), as well as expert skills and background in integrated data analysis, through JC Martin and his team.
