Energy Metabolism Unit, in collaboration with the Service Department of Metabolomics, is studying physiological regulations of metabolisms and their disturbances in obesity and associated diseases. In order to help treat these disorders we explore the influence of drugs, diet and natural substances. We investigate mechanisms that regulate metabolism in health and disease by combining experiments on mice and cell models with clinical studies, and we try to apply new knowledge in clinical medicine. Our results show the importance of the metabolism of adipose tissue for accumulation of body fat and reveal new possibilities in the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders linked to obesity by modulating adipose tissue metabolism.

Through its head and PI in the project and his team (5 members), IPHYS contributes the expertise of its metabolomics and lipidomics platform, as well as analysis and interpretation of complex ‘omics’ data, and their long-standing experience in obesity physiology and biomarker identification. Of note, the metabolomics unit of IPHYS holds the Certificate of good laboratory practice, which is of relevance to the INTECRActiv project.
